Compañía Minera Antapaccay S.A. completed its upgrade to PIPER View 2026 using an isolated-environment methodology with parallel testing, ensuring a transition with zero critical downtime to its visualization and operational intelligence services. The project delivered new capabilities including a system observability panel, print-standard PDF dashboard export, responsive design, and a query inspector for data auditing — with full backward compatibility and zero rework on existing dashboards.

Upgrading the Platform Without Disrupting Daily Operations

Antapaccay needed to upgrade its visualization and operational intelligence platform to the latest version, without compromising the availability of a system actively used by operators, supervisors, and administrators. Key project requirements included:

  • Service continuity: executing the upgrade without critical interruptions to the visualization services staff rely on daily.
  • Safe change management: securing a full backup of the production system before any modification.
  • Thorough pre-production validation: testing all critical modules (PI Web API, SMTP, PDF export, dashboards) in an isolated environment before touching the production environment.
  • Network infrastructure coordination: securely enabling the connectivity required to reach PIPER Solutions’ private container repository.
  • Zero-downtime production switch: executing the final transition quickly and in a controlled manner, without impacting operations.
  • Staff training, to take full advantage of the upgraded version’s new features.

A Controlled, Docker-Based Migration

An upgrade project was executed in structured phases, with testing in an isolated environment before any change touched production:

  • Infrastructure diagnostics: technical audit of hardware (RAM, storage, processing) and software dependencies on the production server, confirming existing resources were sufficient.
  • Full backup: a thorough backup of the production system’s database and configuration, exported to an isolated PIPER Solutions lab environment.
  • Secure connectivity enablement: formal coordination with Antapaccay’s IT team to open the required firewall rule to PIPER Solutions’ private Docker image repository.
  • Isolated-environment testing: a full system replica simulated in PIPER Solutions’ environment, validating SMTP communication, dashboard rendering and PDF export, responsive navigation, and industrial data source queries — without consuming Antapaccay staff time or causing disruption.
  • Deployment and production switch: pulling PIPER View 2026 Docker images, configuring environment variables and credentials, validating active connections against PI Web API, the database engine, and SMTP in production, and controlled service activation with error-free log monitoring.

Upgrade Completed with Zero Critical Downtime

  • Successful production switch, completed on August 24, 2026, with the system 100% operational and running normally on the production server.
  • 4 of 5 work-plan stages completed: Kick-Off, Diagnostics and Backup, Application Upgrade, and Testing and Module Verification (QA) — with the training stage underway.
  • Zero incidents during deployment: system logs showed no warnings or execution errors during the production switch.
  • Full functional validation: successful verification of PI Web API, SMTP service, PDF generation, and dashboard visualization before and after the migration.
  • Full backward compatibility: 100% of existing dashboards, connections, and configurations remained operational, with no rework required.

Why It Matters

  • Zero operational disruption: the isolated-environment, parallel-testing methodology enabled the platform upgrade without affecting the users who depend on it daily.
  • Faster visualization performance: the new rendering engine drastically reduces web browser loading latency, with an adaptive view for mobile-device supervision.
  • Proactive system health visibility: the new observability panel lets administrators monitor connection status (e.g., PI System), communication latency, and dashboard load in real time, catching issues before they affect users.
  • More reliable reporting: improved PDF export, with print-standard framing, prevents information cutoffs and ensures legibility in reports distributed across the organization.
  • Simplified data auditing: the new Query Inspector lets users compare raw values from PI System against processed chart values, speeding up data validation.
  • Zero rework: thanks to the backward-compatible architecture, no dashboard or existing connection needed reconfiguring after the upgrade.
  • Disciplined change management: the use of Docker containers and full backups at every phase kept migration risk to a minimum.
