Upgrading the PI System to High Availability
Goals
The primary objective is to upgrade an existing PI System™ installation to support HA for Data Archive.
Installation is performed on-site by a qualified engineer accredited by OSIsoft as a PI System Infrastructure and Installation Specialist.
Deliverables
- Review of the pre-installation checklist; confirm that all prerequisites are met before proceeding.
- Validation of the High Availability (HA) architecture prior to the on-site visit.
- During the validation process, the HA architecture is reviewed and validated and potential issues are identified.
Validation of the HA architecture should be performed at least one week prior to the on-site visit. - Verification that the Data Archive hardware and operating system are suitable for the new software version.
- Verification that the Data Archive has been properly backed up prior to the upgrade.
- Upgrading the Data Archive to the latest released version (including patches) and installing the Data Archive on a secondary node.
- Installing the Data Archive on a secondary node.
- Setting up the Data Archive collective and transferring the configuration from the primary to the secondary server including the last three archives.
- Testing the connection of a PI Client and reconnecting a client to the primary and secondary Data Archives.
- Testing the Data Archive failover.
- Inspected and modified the PI Timeout Table to comply with OSIsoft best practices.
- Configured daily backup of the PI System on both Data Archive servers.
- Reviewed the site backup and recovery procedure.
- Enabled PI Interface for Performance Monitor and PI Interface for Ping to monitor Data Archive performance (up to 50 tags and two PI ProcessBook™ displays).
- Upgraded the Acquisition node to the latest PI Communication, buffering, and PI Interfaces or PI Connectors libraries.
- Verified and tested PI Buffering on acquisition nodes. Verified PI Interface™ and PI Connector configuration and log files on acquisition nodes.
- Inspected PI Interface and PI Connector IO Rates and data flow.
- Installed the latest version of System Management Tools (SMT) on both servers and a management station.
- Overview of OSIsoft technical support. Installation report.

The AVEVA PI System Installation Accreditation recognizes partners that have extensive experience installing and implementing AVEVA PI Systems in customer environments. Partners must have extensive knowledge of installation preparation, security guidelines, and configuration best practices for implementing a full AVEVA PI System.

Week 1 and 2
Communicating prerequisites and ordering OSIsoft software, PI Server and PI Interface/PI Connector node hardware and operating systems, and control system-specific hardware and software. Confirming installation dates with OSIsoft. Confirming installation date with PIPER.
Week 3
On-site or remote update by PIPER (Up to 5 days).
