Training in
PI System Data Visualization.
Objectives
In our PI System Data Visualization class we teach our students how to use the PI Visualization Tools. The course covers PI ProcessBook™, PI Vision™ and PI DataLink™. Using PI ProcessBook, students will create dynamic and interactive graphical displays presenting PI System™ data in real time. Our web-based tool, PI Vision, will be used to quickly create and share visualizations, as well as view PI ProcessBook visualizations from anywhere and on any device. PI DataLink is a Microsoft® Excel® add-in that allows users to import data from the PI System into a spreadsheet to create easy-to-read, reusable reports. Much of the class time is devoted to hands-on activities.
Deliverables
The following services are performed.
- Pre-service checklist review.
- PI System Visualization course, interactive and remote or face-to-face.
- Provisioning of a pre-configured virtual learning environment hosted in Microsoft Azure to be used by students during the course.
- Preparation of documentation for the course, with a maximum of 12 students per class.
- The training material will be current to the latest version of PI System tools. If you need to run the class using an older version of the software, this must be specified when ordering the service, so that the appropriate documentation can be prepared.
- Training certificates for each student.
Class content
In this class students will learn how to build screens in PI ProcessBook that allow them to mimic operator control screens and gain process visibility. This class will cover basic dynamic symbols and how to connect them to live data. We will also cover static or background symbols that help give additional context to screens. The process for organizing screens into workbooks is also explored.
PI DataLink is an add-in for Microsoft DataLink.
PI DataLink is an add-in for Microsoft Excel that allows users to import PI System data into a spreadsheet to build reports and perform a wide range of analyses. Students will learn how to query individual values, ranges of values, and how to apply simple filters to queries. The course will also cover how to apply custom calculations and format data to create visually appealing reports.
The course will also cover how to apply custom calculations and format data to create visually appealing reports.
Using PI Vision, students will learn how to do ad-hoc analysis and troubleshooting by building simple web-based visualizations. PI ProcessBook displays will be published in PI Vision to show how PI ProcessBook displays can be viewed from anywhere and on a variety of mobile devices.

Note: The instructor can adjust the class content to suit the needs of the students. This means that they will spend more time on topics that are important to them and less time on topics that are less relevant to their situation. However, the instructor will not go beyond the scope of this training package.
